PRESS STATEMENT:
solidarity rally FOR RELEASE OF HAMAS HOSTAGE Gilad Shalit
On Thursday, the 29th July 2010 was, in the Frankfurt office of the German Red Cross, a solidarity rally for the 2006 kidnapped by Hamas in the Gaza Strip Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit instead. These were called: the Jewish community in Frankfurt, Honestly Concerned eV, the German-Israeli Society - DIG Frankfurt, Frankfurt B'nai B'rith Lodge Fine Towns Association, ILI - I Like Israel and the pro-Zionist left eV. At the same time the world found similar demonstrations in front of offices of the International Red Cross. The chairman of Honestly Concerned, Sacha Stawski, demanded by the International Red Cross to provide an ultimatum to Hamas, Gilad Shalit to visit in accordance with international law and to make contact with his family. Failure to comply with Hamas should sued for war crimes before the International Court of Justice be.
The efforts of the International Red Cross for the release of Shalit in captivity are not sufficient. After the rally, the representative of the German Red Cross was handed over a petition that was signed by all the approximately 200 demonstrators. He pledged to forward them to the ICRC in Geneva.
Shalit was abducted by more than 4 years of Hamas in the Gaza Strip and has since been held hostage. "Four years, two governments, two prime ministers, two defense ministers and two of the armed forces of Israel" tried unsuccessfully a prisoner swap with Hamas to enforce. The International Red Cross has in the soldier hostage the status of "prisoners of war" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner_of_war ) awarded. International law guarantees prisoners of war out of the International Red Cross and contact with their families. By failing to comply with these rules, the Hamas violates internationally recognized human right.
